Montgomery County shuts down spas for alleged prostitution

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (WJLA) - A number of spa businesses in Montgomery County have been shut down for number of violations, including criminal activity, permit violations and allegations of prostitution and human trafficking.

Montgomery County Police say the initial investigation took place between September 2011 through January 2012. Four business owners were arrested and six businesses were closed. Human trafficking and prostitution are both being investigated.

In October of 2013, the businesses denoted on the map are under investigation for a variety of violations, including operating without a license and providing massage therapy without a license.

 

Last month, authorities re-initiated a series of investigations in an attempt to eliminate unlicensed spas. They've since closed even more establishment for a variety of reasons, including criminal activity.

Detectives say they continue to investigate cases of illegal massage parlors and spas in Montgomery County.
