Movember 2013: Annual cancer awareness campaign begins Nov. 1
(WJLA) - Whether you prefer a handlebar, pencil, classic or Fu Manchu, your world is about to be filled with moustaches.
The annual drive known as Movember starts Friday, a time when thousands of men nationwide grow out their upper lip hair in the name of raising awareness. Now in its 10th year, the folks behind the Movember Foundation encourage men to grow moustaches to help raise awareness for prostate and testicular cancer.
"With their new moustaches, these Mo Bros bring much needed awareness to men's health issues by prompting conversations wherever they go," the organizers say on their website.
Last year, the Movember Foundation says that 1.1 million participants raised $147 million for cancer research.
