(WJLA) - The band Train and singer Janelle Monae will perform at the National Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony this year, along with jazz trumpeter and pianist Arturo Sandoval and Latin musician Prince Royce.

The performers will join President Obama and his family for the annual tree lighting on Dec. 6 on the Ellipse near the White House.

Additional performers and special guests will be announced in the upcoming weeks.

The ceremony will kick off the holiday season in Washington. This year's ceremony marks the 91st annual Christmas tree lighting. The tradition was started by President Calvin Coolidge in 1923.

A lottery was held for tickets to the event.
