(WJLA) - The Pentagon's new, modern electronic health record system will not be deployed until 2017.

NextGov says that costs for the project, a joint mission between the Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs that was issued in 2008, spiraled up to $28 billion. That effort was subsequently abandoned.

A new project will likely cost up to $5 billion over the next five years. It will cover 9.7 million active duty military members and their families.
