Redskins name controversy: Prince George's protesters demand name change
LANDOVER, Md. (AP) - People demanding the Redskins change its name rallied in Landover Monday. Prince George's leaders from the Latino, African American and other ethnic communities are publicly calling on the team to change its name because they say it's racist.
"Like many issues, it's an evolving issue," explained Sue Marcus, of the Society of American Indian Government Employees. "It's time has come."
Some in Prince George's County do not agree with the protests or the name change.
"These people don't stand for us in Prince George's County," said one woman. "They're not our leaders. They are not our elected officials."
The same group that protested the Redskins game in Minnesota plans to stage a large demonstration outside Fedex Field before Monday' night's kickoff.
