"I can't believe he's gone," said the victim's friend and roommate, a 23-year-old who didn’t want to share his name. The Rockville-native, horrified by the fact he witnessed his friend, Alexander Buie, die. "You know. I've been in some bad situations, but this was really bad," he said.

That friend tells ABC7 News, substance abuse brought he and Buie to the halfway house, one they shared with four other men.

"He was a such a good guy. A lot of energy for a 34-year-old. We helped one another out. You know, like a family," the friend added.

Montgomery County police say three armed men knocked on the home's front door around 10:50 p.m. A resident cracked the door open, and the men forced their way inside.

"I was washing dishes and I heard some noise. I looked to my right, and this guy around my age was pointing a handgun at my head," the roommate said, recalling the feeling of gun barrel pressed against his temple.

The witness says after he dropped to the ground, he heard two gunshots, after which the suspects fled. He and a roommate then found Buie lying in his bedroom, in a pool of blood.

"When I first got to him, he was sitting down, looking at the ground. There was a pool of blood and I just told him to relax. I then yelled for someone to grab a towel so I could wrap his leg up," he said.

Neighbor Santos Sanchez says he works two jobs to raise his two daughters, one and four-years-old, in a neighborhood free of police tape.

"My little daughter asked me, 'why are there so many police out here?' I said, 'I don't know dear. Something happened. I don't know.'"

Paramedics transported Buie to a nearby hospital, where he later died. The two other men in the house were not hurt.

"They didn't start raiding the rest of the house," says the roommate. "They didn't go in the basement. None of my stuff was touched. They came here for one reason, and I don't know what that reason was, but they killed my friend over it."

The first suspect is described as a black man in his twenties. He was wearing camouflage pants and has curly hair and a mustache. The second suspect is only described as a black man in his twenties. He was wearing dark clothes. The third suspect is described as a tall black man wearing all black clothing and a black bandana on his face. Investigators are expected to release a composite sketch of one suspect Friday.
