(WJLA) - Everybody needs somebody sometime, and when Thanksgiving rolls around, that person usually works for Butterball.

Each year, the national turkey producing giant operates a telephone hotline for people to call when they need help cooking their Thanksgiving meal.

Dubbed the Turkey Talk-Line, Butterball has operated the hotline for upwards of 30 years, with experts dishing out tips on everything from cooking your first turkey to what to do on short notice. The line fielded 11,000 calls in its first year in1981, the company says, and has exploded in popularity since.

That number, by the way, is 1-800-BUTTERBALL.

The biggest change to the Turkey Talk-Line this year, according to the Associated Press, will be adding testosterone to the phone lines. For the first time, Butterball is hiring men to man its lines.

“It’s the perfect time, because we have seen more and more men involved in Thanksgiving dinner,” Mary Clingman, director of the Butterball Turkey line, said.

Not one to ignore the cries for cooking help from the digital world, Butterball says it also solicits questions on social media networks, such as Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.
