Verizon 4G LTE service slows down because of rapid growth
(WJLA) - Too much of a good thing is slowing everything down for Verizon customers in some major cities.
Verizon, one of the nation's largest cell carriers, is admitting that the rapid growth of its service in some areas is putting a strain on its 4G LTE service, GigaOM and CNet report.
And, in those areas, numerous customers are seeing their wireless browsing speed drop from LTE to 3G.
"There are certain pockets where we're absolutely going to experience that down tick from the LTE network down to 3G because of capacity constraints," Verizon CFO Fran Shammo told CNet.
Verizon officials declined to say which cities were seeing the more dropoff in service, but they did tell GigaOM that just a third of the company's customers eat up 64 percent of Verizon's LTE traffic.
