Washington Redskins hand out free Thanksgiving meals
WASHINGTON (WJLA) - Thousands of Prince George’s County families won’t have to worry about where to get dinner this Thanksgiving. The Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation handed out food baskets Saturday at FedEx Field.
Ann Leach, of Prince George’s County, walked out of FedEx Field with her hands and heart full.
“Fantastic, fantastic,” she says. “It’s a blessing.”
Leach’s family is just one of more than 3,500 in the county that will have a Thanksgiving turkey and the trimmings on the table for free.
“They gave me all kinds of snacks and a bag of potatoes and onions and a Mary Kay makeup bag.”
Since 2003, the organization has handed out over 860,000 pounds of turkey. This year alone they will give away 42,000 pounds of the Thanksgiving staple.
Nicole Baldwin is a huge fan of the hometown team. She says she wouldn’t have been able to have the big meal without the team pitching in to help.
“Me and my family are just so grateful and yeah, they’re giving my family a Thanksgiving Day dinner,” she says.
It will also be a special Thanksgiving dinner for Sgt. Grant Allen.
“We just thank God there will be that much more to share with others,” he says. “It’s a joyful feeling.”
