Ashley McCrae shot by would-be robbery victim, charged with armed robbery

(WJLA) - A robbery suspect was shot had to be treated for a gunshot wound early Sunday morning after he was shot by his would-be victim - a D.C. police officer.

The attempted robbery happened at about 4:15 a.m Sunday outside a home in the 6000 block of Hope Drive in Temple Hills, Prince George's County Police officials say.

At that point, the suspect, 26-year-old Ashley McCrae of Southeast Washington, approached the victim and threatened him with a gun.

The victim, a Metropolitan Police Officer, then shot McCrae, authorities say.

She then went to a nearby hospital in the District for treatment of her injuries, where she was subsequently arrested. She remains hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

McCrae has been charged with attempted armed robbery. The victim was not injured and it was not immediately clear whether or not he used his service weapon.
