(WJLA) - Bao Bao is ready for her close up.

The Smithsonian's National Zoo's baby panda cub will make her first public appearance on Jan. 18, Zoo officials said Wednesday.

Zoo officials say that the amount of time that Bao Bao will spend on exhibit with her mother, Mei Xiang, will depend largely on her behavior. Some of her public viewings may not last long, they say.

The latest update on Bao Bao indicates that her teeth are starting to come in and that she now weighs more than 13 pounds.

Zoo members will be able to see the panda on display exclusively starting Jan. 11, a week before her official public debut.

She officially got her name, which means "treasure" or "precious," at a Dec. 1 ceremony. About 123,000 people cast a vote to give her the name Bao Bao over four other choices.
