Craig Patterson's trial begins in Julian Dawkins murder case
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WJLA) - Jury selection is underway in the trial of an Arlington County Sheriff's deputy accused of murdering a man this past may.
The trial for Craig Patterson, who is facing a single charge of murder in the May 22 shooting death of Julian Dawkins, is expected to last all week.
Patterson is accused of shooting Dawkins to death after an argument on Lynhaven Drive in Alexandria. The 17-year-veteran of the force told a 911 dispatcher that he shot Dawkins after he pulled a knife on him.
Patterson's legal team says that the deputy has no criminal record. He was placed on unpaid leave from the Sheriff's Office after the shooting.
