FORESTVILLE, Md. (WJLA) - A man was shot and killed early Monday morning in a purported robbery attempt in Prince George's County, authorities say.
The victim, 25-year-old Dalonte Allen Jackson of Fort Washington, was found dead inside a BP gas station in the 3200 block of Walters Lane in Forestville, Prince George's County Police say.
The victim was found at about 3 a.m. with multiple gunshot wounds. Authorities are hoping that surveillance cameras provide some clues.
Authorities believe that at least one suspect shot the man while he stood inside the gas station, then fled.
Inside the station, thick plexiglass separates the clerk from customers in an area that people say is a "pretty rough neighborhood." Neighbors say that there have been occasional shootings.
"Somebody came in in the morning, and somebody shot the guy," gas station clerk Austin David said. "That's it."
However, an increased police presence in the area seems to have stemmed that tide. But Monday's shooting seemed to end that calm.
Frequent customers of the BP say that it recently become a gathering place for young men late at night, which they believe is a recipe for trouble.
"It's just a matter of time," customer Jerry Mercer said. "You get a lot of young guys around all the time...something is going to happen."
