Kenneth Ruscio was Virginia's highest paid university president in 2011
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - A new survey shows that Washington and Lee University's president was the highest-paid private college leader in Virginia in 2011.
The survey by the Chronicle of Higher Education found that Kenneth P. Ruscio's total compensation was $922,542 in 2011. Ruscio's compensation included base pay of $390,553.
The survey ranked Ruscio 52nd among 500 private college presidents nationwide.
University of Richmond President Edward L. Ayers was ranked 68th on the list. His total compensation in 2011 was $836,289, including base pay of $469,021.
The survey says Ayers' compensation declined by about $2,500 from 2010. University of Richmond spokeswoman Linda Evans tells the Richmond Times-Dispatch that the figures reflect a one-time correction of an administrative error. She says Ayers received a modest increase in base salary.
