Mandela Death: Ebrahim Rasool pays tribute at Howard University
WASHINGTON (AP) - South Africa's ambassador will join a memorial tribute for Nelson Mandela on the campus of Howard University in Washington.
Ambassador Ebrahim Rasool will visit the school as students, faculty and alumni honor the legacy of South Africa's first black president. The program is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
As part of the tribute, members of the audience will hold a silent candlelight procession on campus. The symbolic walk will parallel Mandela's "long walk to freedom," and it will lead participants to an exhibit about Mandela on campus.
Mandela visited Howard University in 1994 and received an honorary doctor of laws degree. Thousands of people saw him speak on campus.
