Maurice Owens, Metro's alleged banana con artist, due in court
WASHINGTON (WJLA) - The slippery alleged con artist who appears to have purposely tripped on a banana peel that he dropped himself at a Metro station is due in court Monday on fraud charges.
Maurice Owens, who was captured on surveillance cameras dropping the banana peel inside an elevator at the Potomac Avenue station, then seemingly slipping on it intentionally, is facing 2nd-degree fraud charges.
He sued WMATA after the purported slip and fall, claiming $15,000 in damages connected to several leg and hip injuries. His claim was thrown out once the video surfaced.
Owens could not be reached for comment at the time of the video's release. A court date scheduled for earlier in December was postponed.
