Mayor Vincent Gray to run for reelection in 2014
WASHINGTON (AP/WJLA) - Democrat Vincent Gray will seek a second term as District of Columbia mayor.
The mayor arrived Monday afternoon at the D.C. Board of Elections to pick up nominating petitions. Gray has one month to collect 2,000 signatures to get his name on the ballot.
His decision settles a question that hung over city politics for months.
Supporters say he's done a good job, guiding the district through a period of prosperity. But questions remain about his 2010 campaign, which is the subject of a federal investigation that's spanned most of his nearly three years in office. Four people who worked on that campaign have pleaded guilty to felonies.
Gray enters a crowded field for an April 1 mayoral primary that includes four D.C. councilmembers.
Political consultant Chuck Thies tweeted a picture of Gray filling out his election paperwork Monday afternoon.
