Notre Dame Fighting Irish win NCAA men's soccer national title over Maryland
(WJLA) - Andrew O'Malley's goal in the 60th minute proved to be the one that sent Notre Dame to its first ever men's soccer national championship.
The Fighting Irish used O'Malley's goal to cling to a 2-1 victory over the Maryland Terrapins in Sunday's Men's College Cup Final in Philadelphia. The victory earned Notre Dame its first ever men's soccer national title.
Maryland took a 1-0 lead in the first half on a goal from Patrick Mullins, but Notre Dame tied the game five minutes later on a goal by Leon Brown.
The Terrapins were making their first national championship appearance since winning the title in 2008. Maryland also claimed a College Cup title in 2005. This was Notre Dame's first appearance in the national championship game.
