Robert Dickey sentenced to 18 months for possessing child pornography
WASHINGTON (WJLA) - The Southeast Washington pediatrician who pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography will likely spend the next year in prison.
A judge sentenced Robert Dickey, a well-known 74-year-old man who cared for thousands of children out of his 38th Street Southeast home, to 18 months behind bars Tuesday. He'll more than likely spend about a year incarcerated, though.
During his sentencing, Dickey, who was taken into custody on May 8 and pleaded guilty in September, prosecutors admitted that they had no evidence that he ever molested a child.
Regardless, Dickey will have to register as a sex offender for 15 years after his release from prison.
Dickey, who originally faced up to 10 years in prison, was arrested in May on a tip that he had uploaded about a dozen pornographic images from his computer to an online account. When authorities swept his home, they not only fond more than 130 images, they found him actually looking at the porn.
Despite the charges, a litany of supporters turned out throughout his court proceedings, including at Tuesday's sentencing. Eleven witnesses even testified to his character before the sentence was handed down.
