Shameka Shanta Daniels charged with child cruelty
(WJLA) - A Woodbridge mother faces child cruelty charges after allegedly leaving her six-year-old daughter alone at home.
Officers responded around 1:30 a.m. Thursday to a home in the 1900 block of Briar Rose Lane to investigate a possible child neglect. Authorities say the child called police after she woke up and couldn't find her mother, Shameka Shanta Daniels. The girl dialed random numbers until she made contact with someone who told her to call 911. She was later taken to the police station.
Just before 3 a.m., Daniels called police to report her child was missing. Police say Daniels left the home around 11 p.m.
The child was released to the custody of another family member.
Daniels, 26, was charged and released on personal recognizance.
