Store hours: Target, Walmart, Kmart, Kohls, Toys R Us
OXON HILL, Md. (WJLA) - With most places closed by 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve, the few that were open -- like the K-Mart in Oxon Hill that stayed open until 10 p.m. -- saw huge crowds.
Most people managed to keep the holiday spirit, even though lines were very long.
"You've been in line so long, you've made friends," said shopper Ed Malone.
"Every lane that you go in, it's all the way back in the aisle," said K-Mart shopper Jenine Jarnagin, who only had to buy a few last-minute items.
Many here said that last-minute Christmas shopping is as much a tradition as eggnog.
Earlier in the day, it was a busy but calmer scene at the Georgetown Safeway. Many were buying food for Christmas dinner, but some had other things to be concerned about.
"I forgot the wrapping paper," said Carlos Pallan.
Though it might be too late to hit the mall now, due to a shortened shopping season and disappointing sales this year, a few stores extended their hours later than ever before on Christmas Eve.
But not everyone is sold on the idea of late-night hours. So what are some ideas for last-minute deals?
E-gift cards are the quickest way to get a gift -- buy them online and print out at home for just about anywhere.
Too late for shipping?
Site-to-store shopping allows you to buy online and pick it up in the store that still has the inventory.
Still too late? Some stores are even opening on Christmas Day.
All of the big retail chains will be closed, but many CVS and Walgreens stores will be open Wednesday -- where you can buy some last-minute gift cards.
