(WJLA) - TV3 Winchester, a local ABC affiliate that served the Winchester, Front Royal and Berryville area, announced that it was closing its news operation Thursday.

A statement posted to the station's website indicated that all local broadcasts on the cable-only outlet ended Thursday morning. Officials with Gray Television, the station's owner, said in the statement that TV3 could no longer "effectively serve the Northern Shenandoah Valley.

"We regret that all their efforts and all of our investments were simply insufficient to make this hyper-local station a viable long-term operation," TV3 Vice President/General Manager Teri Lloyd said in a statement.

TV3 signed on the air in March of 2007.
