Under Armour stands by 'Duck Dynasty,' Cracker Barrel pulls its products

MANASSAS, Va. (WJLA) - Outside the Cracker Barrel in Manassas, there was no shortage of opinion when it came to the Duck Dynasty debate.

Phil Robertson, patriarch of the Duck Dynasty clan, has been indefinitely suspended from the A&E show after likening homosexuality to bestiality.

The 67-year-old told GQ Magazine:

"Don't be deceived. Neither the adulterers, the idolaters, the male prostitutes, the homosexual offenders, the greedy, the drunkards, the slanderers, the swindlers -- they won't inherit the kingdom of God. Don't deceive yourself. It's not right."

These regular viewers here at Cracker Barrel on Friday claim that Robertson isn’t a homophobe; however, critics are saying that not only is he homophobic, but downright racist -- especially after comments like this:

"I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once. Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues."

But unlike Tiger Woods or Paula Deen -- who saw corporate sponsors quickly abandon ship upon sight of controversy -- Duck Dynasty is finding an ally in sports clothing brand Under Armour, which supplies some of the camouflage attire for the show.

"The recent comments in the GQ article are not reflective of Under Armour's beliefs and do not represent our point of view," claimed the company.

Meanwhile, Cracker Barrel is tactically backing away. Employees contacted ABC7, saying they were instructed to pull Duck Dynasty products from the shelves on Friday, and slash prices of remaining items nearly 50-percent.

Late tonight, a Cracker Barrel spokesperson issued this statement:

"We continue to offer Duck Commander products in our stores. We removed selected products which we were concerned might offend some of our guests while we evaluate the situation. We continually evaluate the products we offer and will continue to do so."
