UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (WJLA) - An Oxon Hill man is accused of shooting two people just miles from where a 19-year-old was gunned down hours beforehand.
Police responded to calls of shots fired around 10 a.m. Police found Douglas Antonio Romero Argueta, 29, of Gaithersburg, suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on scene. A second victim was also shot and was in stable condition Sunday.
Ronte Travell Muhyee, 20, was arrested and faces multiple charges.
Robert Swint witnessed the aftermath.
“When I first saw him, he was pulling down the street and he kind of fell over slow, and I knew it didn't look right and I thought he was just assaulted."
Swint says he then returned home, learned what he saw was a homicide, and rushed back to tell police what he witnessed.
"I was surprised and shocked to find out that something like this had happened on my street," he said.
Swint says he moved to the neighborhood five months ago, thinking the area was safe. Though the incident doesn’t change his mind, it reaffirms an outlook.
"I'm upset that it happened so close to my house, but in today's world, that's what happens."
Police say a language barrier is making this investigation more difficult. Only through the eyes of watchful Samaritans can they hope to learn more.
