FALLS CHURCH, Va. (WJLA) - A Winter Storm Warning that has been in effect for many western parts of the D.C. area throughout Sunday has been extended through 10 a.m. Monday across the entire region.
The National Weather Service is calling for continued sleet, snow and freezing rain into the overnight hours and into late Monday morning.
This new warning covers the District of Columbia and all surrounding counties and cities in Maryland and Virginia.
A Winter Storm Warning means that significant amounts of snow, sleet, or freezing rain are expected or are occurring in the warned area.
Travel disruptions within the region are likely as roads quickly become snow covered and icy. Caution should be used during any travel and please remain alert for ongoing plow/salt operations. Deteriorating weather conditions are now imminent.
A Winter Storm Watch was previously issued for the entire D.C. metro area starting Sunday morning. For the latest on this storm, check out the Stormwatch 7 live blog.
