Alexandria, Va. (WJLA) - Alexandria Police have arrested a man in connection with the robbery of a postal carrier. Gary Love, III, 20, of Alexandria, was charged with Robbery and was being held without bond at the Alexandria Detention Center Thursday.

According to Alexandria Police, three men wearing masks came up and robbed a mail carrier at gunpoint in broad daylight on January 15.

"I think it's kind of scary, I mean people are walking around all the time around here," says Alexandria Post Office customer, Maggie Ball.

People nearby say crime is not unheard of here, but this is unusual.

"It's kind of crazy because things like that don't really happen out here," says Alexandria resident Tay Smith.

"Most of the things that happen around here are petty, smaller things," adds Gary Norek.

The announcement of the $25,000 reward comes just days after letter carriers protested in D.C., calling for an end to mail delivery after dark. The rally was prompted by the murder of mail carrier Tyson Barnette.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service is hoping the reward money will be enough to help make future arrests in the case.
