Broken rail creates travel delays on blue and yellow lines
(WJLA) - A broken rail along a section of Metro track shared by the Blue and Yellow lines created major delays through much of the Thursday morning rush hour.
The cracked rail forced trains to single track between Braddock Road and National Airport.
Metro says the broken rail, located just south of the Airport, required crews to install a 39-foot stretch of rail. Broken rails are often caused by a quick change in the temperature.
Repairs caused delays of 20-30 minutes while underway, and residual delays remain with repair work completed.
