Dumfries hit-and-run sends child to the hospital

(WJLA) - Police in Dumfries are investigating a New Year's Day hit-and-run that sent a child to the hospital.

According to police, the victim, a 10-year-old girl, was walking with her family on the sidewalk adjacent to River Heritage Boulevard when a pick-up truck left the roadway and struck her on the sidewalk. The vehicle then left the roadway a second time at the corner of Jefferson Davis Highway and River Heritage Boulevard. 

It happened around 6:30 p.m. 

The victim was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries. 

The striking vehicle is described as a dark full-sized pick-up truck, possibly with a flat bed and body lift kit. There is no description of the driver. Anyone with information should call police.
