HOV lanes closed on I-395/95 this weekend
(WJLA) - The HOV lanes on I-395/95 are scheduled to close this weekend for construction.
The HOV lanes will be closed from the D.C. line to Dumfries, just south of Exit 152 (Route 234).
The closures will continue as needed during most weekends until Memorial Day to accomodate the final year of construction on the 29-mile 95 Express Lanes Project.
The HOV lanes will not be closed during the following expected heavy-travel weekends:
Work is in full swing throughout the 95 Express Lanes corridor, along I-395/95, and within the median. Construction crews are working on new sound walls and new stormwater management ponds.
In the median, work continues behind the concrete barriers to place foundations for new overhead signage, and efforts are underway to install the infrastructure needed for the tolling gantries and transportation management equipment.
As work progresses, drivers should expect ongoing lane closures on I-395/95 during nonpeak travel times as well as extended weekend closures of the HOV lanes.
Construction is expected to be complete late this year with lanes opening in early 2015.
