iPhone anniversary: Thursday marks 7 years since Apple introduced device

(WJLA) - It was seven years ago Thursday that Steve Jobs stood on a stage in San Francisco and told his ardent followers that he was introducing what he called a "revolutionary product that changes everything."

He was right.

Thursday marks seven years since Jobs, then the CEO of Apple, introduced the iPhone to the world. And in those years, the device has become the world's most dominant mobile device.

As CNet points out, the iPhone now occupies nearly half of the smartphone market in the United States. In its first three months, Apple sold 1.4 million phones. More recently, the company sold 150 million of the devices during the last fiscal year.
