Sergeant Robert Russell hits deer, overturns into ditch

(WJLA) - A St. Mary's County Sheriff's sergeant had a close call with a deer Tueday morning.

Police say Sergeant Robert Russell was driving his patrol car on Oakley Road when he hit the deer. The deer got stuck under his car, causing the vehicle to overturn into a ditch filled with water. Sergeant Russell was trapped inside.

Rescue crews were able to free Sergeant Russell. He was taken to the hospital , but remarkably, he was able to leave a short time later.
