Walter Stafon Bowman, Silver Spring teacher, accused of assault
(WJLA) - A Silver Spring middle school teacher is accused of assaulting three female coworkers.
Walter Stafon Bowman, 37, was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with three counts of second-degree assault and one count of false imprisonment.
Police say Bowman is a science teacher at Briggs Chaney Middle School.
The first victim was allegedly assaulted by Bowman in late August, authorities say. The victim alleges she was seated in an office with her back to the door when Bowman entered the room unannounced and placed his hands on her shoulders. During a second incident, police say Bowman gave the victim a "bear hug" and began to laugh. The victim broke free and began screaming.
Police say a second victim was allegedly assaulted in her classroom in September. The victim alleges she felt something touch her ankle and observed Bowman crouched on the floor and laughing.
A third victim alleges Bowman approached her sometime in September, grabbed her around the waist, and laughed.
Police believe there may be more victims of Bowman's inappropriate and criminal conduct. Anyone who believes they have been victimized should call police at 240-773-5530.
At this time, investigators have no evidence of inappropriate or unwanted contact between Bowman and students.
