Area code telephone scams can cost consumers on their phone bills
(WJLA) - Scam artists have found a new way to bilk consumers out of their cash using tricky telephones.
The scam, according to an article from Forbes, begins with a missed call on your phone from one of several international area codes, including 473, 809, 284, 649 and 876. Unsuspecting victims attempt to call back, not knowing that they're actually placing an international call.
Scammers will often establish their number as a "premium service" number, which can cost victims of the trick as much as $20 should their "who just called me?" curiosity prompt them to call back.
