Outer loop crash backs traffic up from Md. into Va.
(WJLA) - A crash on the outer loop shut down all travel lanes for nearly three hours Monday morning.
The crash happened just after 6 a.m. near Branch Avenue, exit 7 on the outer loop. For three hours commuters could only use the left shoulder to pass the crash in Prince George's County.
At one point delays stretched for eight miles across the Wilson Bridge into Alexandria, Va.
According to a WTOP Report, Prince George's County Police reported a woman trapped in one of the vehicles had been transported to an area hospital with life threatening injuries.
Police have not confirmed what caused the crash. All travel lanes on the Outer Loop at Route 5 have since reopened.
