Peter Hendy II sentenced to 20 years in babysitting death
WASHINGTON (AP) - A District of Columbia man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for fatally beating his girlfriend's 4-year-old son while babysitting the child.
Peter I. Hendy II was sentenced in D.C. Superior Court on Friday after pleading guilty to a charge of second-degree murder. He'll also face five years of supervised release.
Prosecutors say the 33-year-old Hendy admitted punching the child, Kamari Zavon Taylor, in the stomach after the boy said he didn't have to listen to him about how far he could ride his scooter.
Prosecutors say Hendy carried the boy to bed and left the apartment to sell marijuana. He later discovered that the child was unconscious and not breathing. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
