Potomac Phil predicts 6 more months of political gridlock

WASHINGTON (WJLA) - Washington held its own Groundhog Day festival Sunday - complete with its own groundhog, Potomac Phil. Dozens gathered in Dupont Circle awaiting both a weather and political prediction.

To the dismay of many area residents, Potomac Phil followed in the steps of his brother, Punxsutawney Phil. Both groundhogs saw their shadow, meaning six more weeks of winter. Potomac Phil's shadow also means six more months of political gridlock in Washington.

There is one major difference between the two groundhogs - Potomac Phil is stuffed. According to the Dupont Circle event's organizer, Aaron DeNu, a decision is made by "paying attention to a lot of nonverbals" and "looking at the glare and the gaze in his eyes."

This is the third year of D.C.'s Groundhog Day event. It is hosted by Dupont Festival.
