CLINTON, Md. (WJLA) – It’s the kind of crime that gives parents chills.

Fifty-three-year-old Anthony Logan has been charged with attempted kidnapping, assault and trespassing at a school – but there is more to the story.

On Monday, a third-grade girl was walking to Randall Elementary in Clinton when she says she spotted a man police believe was Logan talking to himself and acting strangely.

When he came towards her, she ran. He then ran after her and grabbed at the backpack she was wearing.

The girl made it safely inside and her attacker vanished. Soon after, Prince George’s Officer Ariel Acosta arrived on the scene. The suspect description reminded him of a drunk he had found on school grounds nine months earlier.

"He was so drunk he couldn't walk, so I gave him a ride home," he recalls.

Acosta found Logan’s name and address in his notes from months ago, and went to his house. Logan answered the door, and happened to be wearing the exact same clothes police were looking out for – according to the officer.

After  the victim made the ID, Acosta made the arrest.

In a neighborhood where many kids walk to school, parents appreciate the diligent police work.

"It doesn't happen often, and that's saying they're keeping the neighborhood safe," says Vicky Mark.
