Hunter Harries killed in South Capitol Street crash

(WJLA) - Police in the District are investigating a violent overnight crash at South Capitol and D streets SE. 

According to police, a BMV SUV traveling northbound on South Capitol Street at a high rate of speed struck a flower planter protecting the South Capitol Street and D Street vehicle entrance, which was closed. The vehicle then went airborne and struck a tree. 

Hunter B. Harries, 19, of McLean, Va., was pronounced dead at an area hospital. 

The 3 a.m. crash closed several area streets for investigation.
