Prince William students accused of posting photos of naked girls on Instagram
MANASSAS, Va. (WJLA) - Three teenagers in Prince William County are accused of targeting other students by posting nude photos of them on Instagram.
The sexting saga began when a teenage girl found her nude picture on the popular social media site – a self-photo she thought she had only sent to a friend.
"Somebody made a page and people would send the photos they got from certain people and post them on there," explained high school student Chase McClendo.
The girl's friend ended up trading her nude picture to a trio of teens, according to special victims investigators.
The teens included a 15-year-old girl from Hylton High School, a 13-year-old boy from Stonewall Middle School, and a 14-year-old boy who attends an alternative online school.
Though it seems shocking, some teens aren’t surprised.
"That's an everyday occurrence..." said Kimberly Fulco.
But what stunned sex crimes investigators is that the trio allegedly set up several fake Instagram accounts and then traded and posted more than 50 nude “selfies” of teenage girls.
"They should go to jail for a very long time," said parent Joe Fulco.
Once on Instagram, teens say that all you have to do is “shout them out to your followers,” which then allows anyone to view every single nude picture – faces included.
Police call this "harassment by computer," which constitutes a Class 1 misdemeanor.
The school district tells us that because the crime didn’t happen on school grounds or on school computers, no disciplinary action has been taken.
