Jaime Rowley, runner and mother, struck and killed in Ashburn
ASHBURN, Va. (WJLA) - Ashburn residents are still mourning the loss of Jaime Rowley, a 31-year-old jogger who was struck and killed at the intersection of Waxpool Road and Claiborne Parkway last Wednesday.
"I think just because Jaime was a single Mom raising two daughters on her own, people can kind of relate to her story," said friend Maura Pratt.
Many people from the community wanted to help her 12 and 15-year-old daughters – one friend even set up a crowd-funding website fueled by social media, which has already raised nearly $100,000.
"There are some financial advisors from a couple different firms we're meeting with this week to lay out a good way to structure the trust," said website organizer Frank Watson.
And the giving doesn’t stop there. On Wednesday, Paisano’s Pizza will donate a portion of their sales whenever customers mention Rowley’s name.
"About three years ago, I lost my mother in a car accident," explained manager Sam Saah. "I can only imagine what those two little girls are going through...I felt like we had to do something to step up."
"She just lit up the room...she was so full of life," described Pratt.
Friends say Rowling was well-liked, but still never could have imagined this kind of outpouring of love and support.
"She would be so at peace and just feel so good that her daughters were being taken care of -- they were her life, she would do anything for them," said Pratt.
The driver who struck Rowley reportedly stayed at the scene and even performed CPR on the mother of two.
