Virginia girl discriminated against for tomboy looks

Decrease Increase Text size

(WJLA) - A Virginia family says that a Christian school discriminated against their daughter because of the way she looks.

This eight-year-old girl has short hair and dresses like a tomboy. The grandparents who adopted her said they received a letter form the school saying she would not be allowed back the following year unless she changed her look.

The principal said some students were confused about whether she was a boy or girl.

Her family has since taken her out of the school and has no desire to re-enroll her. The girl is now attending a public school.

This is a developing story. Updates to follow.
