Man accused of shooting off-duty Baltimore police officer surrenders
BALTIMORE (AP) - Police say a suspect in the shooting that critically injured an off-duty Baltimore police officer has surrendered.
Police Commissioner Anthony Batts announced Sunday that 34-year-old Gregg Thomas had turned himself in to police.
Police say the shooting happened Friday evening on Bel Air Road as Sgt. Keith McNeill, a 19-year veteran of the department, was running personal errands. He was shot multiple times in his upper body, but Batts has said doctors are "cautiously optimistic" about his recovery.
Online court records show Thomas was charged with attempted first-degree murder, assault and other offenses, and is being held without bail.
As he walked to police headquarters to surrender Sunday, Thomas told WJZ-TV that he is innocent and didn't shoot anyone.
