Manassas day care director arrested for allegedly assaulting two children
(WJLA) - Authorities have arrested the 39-year-old Arousha Shahin, director of S.M.I.L.E. Day Care in Manassas, for allegedly assaulting two children who were in her care.
Detectives from the Prince William County Police Department's Physical Abuse Unit, together with officials from Child Protective Services, began investigating Shahin of Haymarket in February after allegations against her were filed anonymously.
Authorities said their investigation into the claims revealed that in February, Shahin assaulted a 6-year-old boy and a 5-year-old girl while they were in her care.
Shahin was arrested on Friday, March 21, and the day care is currently closed.
Parents are shocked to hear the news, and a woman who does not wish to be identified said she has known Shahin for 20 years and insists that she is a good caregiver.
Shahin is charged with two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and two counts of assault and battery. She is currently free on $10,000 bond.
