Police arrest suspect accused of raping Manassas woman in her sleep
MANASSAS (WJLA) -- Prince William County Police said Tuesday they have arrested a suspect they believe may be the man who snuck into a Manassas woman's bed in her home in the middle of the night earlier this month and raped her.
The assault occurred at around 4 a.m. on March 9 at the Old Centreville Gardens apartments in the 7500 block of Prince Cole Court in Manassas.
The victim said she thought it was her husband getting into bed with her, so she didn't immediately react -- then, she realized it was a stranger.
During the subsequent investigation, detectives said they located surveillance footage which showed a possible suspect walking in the area at the time of the incident.
After an extensive investigation and numerous canvasses in the neighborhood, detectives said they were able to identify the suspect as Jose Ruiz, 35, of the 8700 block of Yorkshire Lane in Manassas. Detectives obtained warrants against Ruiz in connection to the incident.
After a search, Ruiz was located and arrested on March 14 in the area of Keara Court in Manassas by a police K-9 unit and patrol officers with the Prince William County Police Department. The U.S. Marshals' Fugitive Task Force also assisted in the investigation.
Police said Ruiz is being charged with rape and burglary with intent to defile. He is being held without bond.
