Manassas woman sexually assaulted while sleeping
(WJLA) - The people who live in the Old Centreville Gardens apartment complex in Manassas are understandably on edge – including resident Dale Lavine.
"This neighborhood is pretty much quiet," he says. "You see the gated security. But for something like that to happen, it's bad. It's tragic."
Prince William County Police say that on Sunday morning just after 4 a.m., a man slipped into an apartment through an unlocked door, got into bed with a 40-year-old woman, and sexually assaulted her.
Prince William County resident Christy Burroughs is deeply troubled by this disturbing attack, and hopes that investigators can quickly close this case:
“Somebody coming into your own house and doing this right in the midst of your husband being a room away. So, yeah it's very scary."
Police say the victim didn’t immediately react to a stranger in her bed, because she initially thought it was her husband. By the time she realized what had happened, the intruder was gone.
"It made me upset because living two buildings down on the same street, it concerns me -- because if somebody could come in there and do that to them, it could happen to anyone." said Dale Lavine.
No description of the suspect is available since the room was dark when the incident took place.
