I-495 lane closures expected on Wednesday, Thursday nights
Motorists expecting to traveling along the inner loop of Interstate 495 in Maryland on Wednesday and Thursday nights may want to explore another route.
Beginning at 10 p.m. Wednesday, the three left lanes of the inner loop will close between Connecticut Avenue (MD 185, exit 33) and Georgia Avenue (MD 97, exit 31), state highway administration officials said.
The lanes should reopen by 5 a.m. each day.
Motorists should consider using MD 410 as an alternate route, which runs parallel and south of I-495.
The lane closures will allow crews to complete emergency repairs on the I-495 bridge over Kensington Avenue, which is just east of Connecticut Avenue.
The emergency work requires cutting out a large section of concrete and pouring new concrete, which takes several hours to cure. Motorists should consider using MD 410 as an alternate route, which runs parallel to I-495 to the south.
Those traveling through the area should look for reduced speed limits, narrow driving lanes and highway workers.
