WASHINGTON (WJLA) - A 3-year-old boy wandered away from his home in southeast Washington Wednesday morning, setting off a search that ended when the child was discovered inside a Medicaid transport van.

The little boy wandered away from his home on F Street SE in the midst of Wednesday morning's torrential rain, finding his way onto a medicaid van that had come to the area to pick up a pregnant neighbor. The van's driver thought the child was with the pregnant woman and the woman though the child was with the driver.

With the child buckled in, the driver made his way down Pennsylvania Avenue to George Washington University Hospital, where the pregnant woman finally clarified that the young boy was not with her. Shaken, the driver called the police. All together, the child was missing for roughly an hour.
