Southeast D.C. experiencing a development boom
Southeast D.C. is growing with development picking up.
Home to the Navy Yard and Nationals Park, now the area along the Anacostia River is becoming home to more and more families.
Developers and planners in the Capital Waterfront area say there is no doubt Nats Park is a fantastic marketing tool.
But their hope of developing beyond baseball has become a reality.
People are drawn there for a variety of reasons. Some say it's the parks, the safety, and appeal of new development -- like the Blue Jacket Restaurant, which opened last October.
Michael Stevens is president of the Capital Riverfront Business Improvement District. He says the neighborhood is the next natural growth area for the city.
Money, not surprisingly, is the big key to the growth of that area. According to one neighborhood planning representative, an estimated $1.4 billion is being invested in the area right now, with likely more on the way.
