WALDORF, Md. (WJLA) - Massive flames are what a family of eight inside a Waldorf home woke up to Monday. This is where Angelica Givhan's God parents live.

As Angelica Givhan talked to ABC7 about the destruction of her godparents' home, she understandably became overcome with emotion.

"There is nothing. Its gone," she said, as she took phone calls from loved ones and tried to survey what was left of the Waldorf family home.

Thankfully, the husband, wife, their children - four boys, and two daughters, one of them very young - and even the family dog were able to get out of the home safely when it burst into flames Monday morning. The unforgiving flames shot over the roof, completely destroying the house.

Neighbor Bill White and his wife said they heard a couple of "booms" just before 5 a.m.

"So we looked out the window - and the house was on fire. They were coming out of the back... the [flames] were pretty high," said White.

The home, now merely a shell, is destroyed, being declared a total loss. Fire investigators were at the scene most of the morning, trying to figure out exactly what caused this fire.

The Red Cross has been assisting the family, and firefighters stayed all morning making sure hot embers didn't flare back up.

Investigators said they suspected the heavy winds in the area Monday morning may have actually fueled the fire, which gutted the structure.

Though it's hard to accept what's happened, Angelica Givhan said she is thankful no one in her family was injured.
