Hazmat teams evacuate Bethesda office building due to freon leak

BETHESDA, Md. (WJLA) - Hazardous materials teams evacuated a Bethesda office building Tuesday afternoon after a freon leak was reported.

The incident occurred at the Two Democracy Center building at 6903 Rockledge Drive. NewsChopper 7 caught a photo of what appeared to be hundreds of employees and visitors being evacuated from the building.

Sources confirmed that traces of freon were detected on the 13th, 14th and 15th floors of the building.

At last report just after 2 p.m., the leak on the 15th floor had been controlled, and the remaining floors were being ventilated by hazmat teams.

No injuries have been reported.

Officials have not confirmed what caused the freon leak.
